Privacy Policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and who else can see it.
The short version
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and shows no advertising. Nothing you read here is tracked, and there is no account to create. The only personal information the site holds is what you type into one of its two forms, and it holds that only for as long as it needs to.
Reading articles
You can read every article and use every calculator without giving us anything. We do not set cookies, we do not use analytics or tracking pixels, and we do not build a profile of what you read.
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The figures you type into them are never sent to us and never leave your device.
The contact form
If you write to us through the contact page, the name, email address and message you send are delivered to our inbox by email. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not pass your address to anyone.
Messages are kept while they are useful, which for a correction to an article means until it is fixed, and are deleted after that.
Remembering how you like the site
If you fold away the contents list on an article, that preference is kept in your browser so it stays folded on the next article. It is a single yes or no, it is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and clearing your browser storage removes it.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records ordinary web server logs: the page requested, the time, the browser’s user-agent string, and the IP address the request came from. These are used to keep the site running and to stop abuse of the forms, which are rate limited by IP address. They are not used to identify individual readers and are discarded on the provider’s own schedule.
Who else processes it
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: hosting for the pages themselves, a database for anything you save, and a delivery service for outgoing email. They process data only to provide those services to us, and for nothing of their own.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We will disclose it only where the law requires it of us.
If you want to know which providers those are, write to support@flashfish.net and we will tell you.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to support@flashfish.net. Because there are no accounts, in practice this means the contact messages you have sent us and any expense sheet you can give us the link to.
Depending on where you live you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA or a similar law. We will honour those requests regardless of where you live, because keeping one process is simpler than keeping several.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that changes what is collected, this page changes with it. There is no separate archive of old versions; the page you are reading is the policy that applies.
